Bahamas Plays and Film Control Board

The Bahamas Plays and Film Control Board is the body responsible for the rating of films and plays in The Bahamas.  This is a mandatory viewing board. The board is selected by the Minister responsible for the control and regulation of plays and films exhibited in The Bahamas for the general public.  The system of censorship is a single tier one with a right by any member of the general public to appeal the selected rating or banning of a film by the board to the Supreme Court of The Bahamas.  Before any play or film can be publicly viewed in any cinema or theatre they must be viewed by a panel from this board.  All panels must consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven persons, including the Chairman, a policeman and a Ministry representative.

  The Bahamas Plays and Film Control Board Classifications are as follows:

A       Suitable for all ages
B       Suitable for adults, persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.
T       Suitable for persons above the age of fifteen.
C       Suitable for adults only, persons under 18 years are not admitted whether accompanied by an adult or not.
D       Unsuitable for public viewing.
