Organisations

The oxygen of a thriving film culture comes from institutions that sustain production and promote audience access. Equally vital are the critics, scholars, audiences, fans, educators and students whose work sheds light on cinema’s pasts and generates pathways to new futures.

In the Bahamas, organisations including the Film and Television Commission, and such non-profit ventures as the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF), the Island House Film Festival and the UNESCO-linked SeaWords Festival, provide forums for exploring Bahamas films in the context of global screen cultures, while also promoting the Bahamas as a tourist destination and production location. The University of the Bahamas and other educational institutions provide further important hubs for training in creative and critical practice.
