Memories and histories

‘…..memories can inform a social history of the cinema and provide insights into the way in which the cinema influences individuals and the…community in their everyday lives’ (Monique Toppin, 2019).

As the defining popular cultural forms of the twentieth century, film and cinema have played as large a role in Bahamas social lives and cultural history as in other postcolonial nations. Yet a comprehensive history of Bahamas moving image culture has yet to be written. The BFCP aims to support future research, while also piquing public interest in our field, by showcasing a range of past and ongoing research initiatives in Bahamas film and cinema history.
